How to Source Sex Toys from China: Factory vs. Trading Company
A trading company can quote in an hour. A factory will tell you it needs three days. That difference is the single most useful signal when you are vetting a Chinese supplier for adult products.

Most buyers arrive at the same three options: an Alibaba-style directory page, a trading company, or a factory. The three look identical in a quotation PDF. They are not the same business, and the difference shows up in your margin, your lead time, and your ability to fix a quality problem when one arrives.

What a trading company actually does

A trading company buys from a factory and resells to you. That is a legitimate and sometimes useful arrangement. It is also where most of the problems in this category come from, because the person answering your email has never seen the production line and is working from a catalogue.

You can spot one quickly. Ask one specific technical question about the product in front of you — not "what is your MOQ", but something like "what Shore A hardness do you run this sleeve at, and can you show me the incoming test report". A factory answers with numbers. A trading company answers with a brochure, or changes the subject.

Five questions that separate the two

  1. Who designs the tooling, and who owns it?
  2. Can I see the moulding floor during a visit?
  3. What is your incoming QC process, and can I see the records?
  4. If a batch fails, does the fix happen in your building or in someone else's?
  5. May I talk to one of your existing repeat customers?

None of these are hostile. A real factory welcomes all five, because every one of them is a question about whether you can deliver the same thing twice. A company that cannot answer them is not hiding anything sinister — it simply does not control the process you are paying for.

The four cost drivers where factory pricing wins

If your margin is thin, these are the lines worth fighting for. They are also the lines a trading company cannot move for you, because it has no control over them.

  • Tooling. A factory owns the mould and amortises it across runs; an intermediary passes the charge through.
  • Colour and hardness changes. Re-tooling for a new shade or a firmer Shore A is routine in-house work.
  • Defect handling. A factory can rework a failed run; a trading company has to go back to its supplier and hope.
  • Packaging. Printing your own boxes and inserts costs almost nothing in-house and a lot in the middle.
We are a source manufacturer in China: we design and run our own tooling, do our own moulding and assembly, and can be audited in person. If you want to see the floor before you commit, ask and we will arrange it.
